Danny Holguin is an award-winning filmmaker and talented visual artist originally from Cartagena, Colombia. He has a special eye in storytelling for a positive cause. His main focus is filmmaking, however, he possesses strong natural skills for cartooning, writing, and photography.
Danny has been involved in the media industry since he graduated in 2004 with a Media Arts Degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He has worked in well-known production companies in the USA and abroad. In 2013 he founded his production firm DHO Studios LLC with the vision of creating films closer to his heart.
In the same year, his feature documentary film “Destinos Interrumpidos” (Interrupted Destinies) won the coveted “Victor Nieto” Award at the “Cartagena, Colombia International Film Festival”, considered to be one of the most influential festivals in Latin America and the oldest. The film also won Best Foreign Documentary Award at the “Atlanta Docu Fest”, a very important film festival and platform, showcasing the best independent documentaries around the globe. In 2014, the film participated at the prestigious “Cannes International Film Festival” market place. Thanks to this, it was distributed worldwide by Caracol Televisión (Colombia), FilmOption International (Canada) and Olympusat Networks (USA).
His most recent documentary film, “La Boquilla, My Paradise”, was awarded 5 times. “Mani-Cura”, a co-directed project, got selected in 2018 at the “Cannes Film Festival” in France under the Short Film corner category and it is currently nominated for 7 TWNYS Awards in Miami. His feature documentary “The Virgin Whore” was selected as a finalist in the important NATPE audio visual market held yearly in Miami.
